We are seeking a Transaction Monitoring Analyst to support AML and financial crime detection activities for a high-visibility compliance programme. This role focuses on reviewing alerts, conducting first-level investigations, assessing transactional behaviours, and ensuring all actions align with regulatory expectations-particularly those outlined under the German AML Act (GwG).
You will play a key role in identifying unusual activity, escalating potential risks, and ensuring monitoring processes remain traceable, well-documented and audit-ready.
Your Role: A Financial Crime Specialist Supporting AML Detection & Monitoring
- Perform first-level AML alert reviews to distinguish false positives from genuine concerns, escalating where appropriate.
- Handle post-processing activities for alerts potentially linked to SAR/STR obligations under §43 of the German AML Act (GwG).
- Manage multiple queues of account-screening and real-time transaction-screening alerts with accuracy and efficiency.
- Conduct initial triage of transaction monitoring alerts and ensure all documentation aligns with BaFin expectations.
- Review customer information, transactional behaviour and known red-flag indicators to determine risk relevance.
- Document clear, defensible rationales for both alert clearance and escalation decisions.
- Maintain high levels of productivity while meeting stringent quality and compliance standards.
- Perform detailed reviews of transactional histories for flagged accounts, recommending rule refinements as necessary.
- Contribute to defining and implementing new transaction-monitoring rules to improve detection effectiveness.
- Record interactions, issues and outcomes accurately in required systems (e.g., LOCS).
- Escalate potential Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to senior team members in alignment with regulatory obligations.
- Identify and escalate financial-crime red flags and vulnerabilities, contributing to remediation and mitigation strategies.
The Profile We're Looking For: - Strong educational background; a degree in Finance, Legal or a STEM discipline is advantageous.
- Knowledge of German AML regulations (GwG) including §43 reporting requirements.
- Strong command of the German language (C1 or above).
- 2+ years' experience in Transaction Monitoring with a proven track record of investigating high-risk financial activity and identifying AML red flags.
- Experience reviewing alerts, analysing transaction patterns and assessing potential suspicious behaviour.
- Background working in banking environments, either directly within a financial institution or through consulting/outsourced services.
- Strong understanding of AML, financial-crime risk and the regulatory frameworks governing financial institutions.
- Familiarity with transaction-monitoring platforms and screening tools.
- Ability to interpret and apply financial-crime guidance and industry standards.
- Understanding of BSA/sanctions-related regulatory requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills.
- Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively across all seniority levels.
- Proficiency across Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
