The Department of Languages and Cultures at the University of Reading seeks to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in German (Teaching Intensive, Grade 7 salary scale beginning at £47,389 per annum) for one year with the option of extension, starting 1 September 2026. The successful candidate will undertake high-quality German language teaching at different levels, including ab initio and translation-focussed classes, with the possibility to contribute to department-wide comparative modules with content based on Translation and/or German Studies.
The Department of Languages and Cultures is part of the School of Humanities and delivers core language provision and cultural modules for single and joint honours degree programmes in and with Modern Languages. The Department also delivers optional language modules that are taken by students and staff across the University via the Languages for All Programme. In addition to language modules and language-specific cultural modules, the Department delivers a suite of comparative undergraduate modules in film studies, translation studies, history, and literature.

- a postgraduate degree in an area of German Studies or Translation Studies with German
- experience of teaching German language at university level
- native or near-native competence in German
- an excellent command of spoken and written English
- experience of teaching in a Higher Education institution in the UK
