Legal Counsel with German (1-Year Fixed-Term) - M/W/X

JOB DESCRIPTION

As the sole Legal Counsel for Germany and Austria and reporting to the General Counsel International, you will own all legal, commercial, and regulatory risks for the region (excluding tax and labor). Advising the German Country Manager and local leadership, you will draft and negotiate B2B commercial agreements (mainly product purchase, brandsplace, travel, and media), ensure compliance with e-commerce regulations (GPSR, pricing transparency/PAnDV, consumer protection), and handle local litigation. Operating in a fast-paced environment, you will balance risk mitigation with business execution to drive Veepee's regional growth safely.

TASKS

• Lead and manage all legal aspects of Veepee's operations in Germany and, secondarily, B2C operations in Austria.
• Identify and assess legal risks associated with business transactions, keeping senior management and the German Country Manager informed of legal developments.
• Provide legal advice on all areas of law (except tax and labor) that affect the business, including commercial contracts, consumer, advertising, and digital law, competition and distribution law, regulatory compliance, drafting legal documents, addressing claims/legal procedures, and IP/IT and e-commerce issues.
• Evaluate business activities continuously to identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
• Oversee the drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts, ensuring terms reflect strategic objectives and comply with legal standards.
• Monitor changes in laws and regulations relevant to the e-commerce and technology sectors, advising on needed adaptations for compliance.
• Manage and resolve disputes involving the company, providing strategic advice and solutions that align with business interests and legal compliance.
• Lead initiatives to educate and train staff on relevant legal developments, policies, and best practices.
• Ensure all legal documents, including contracts, memoranda, and communications, are accurately drafted to protect company interests.
• Represent the company in legal proceedings or coordinate with external legal firms when necessary to manage legal disputes and litigation.
• Support Finance on the corporate housekeeping of the German entities.
• Serve as a business partner and trusted advisor, facilitating the company's goals through sound legal guidance.

MUST HAVE SKILLS

• Education: Master's degree in Law from a recognized German University or equivalent degree (Staatsexamen) with a focus/specialization in consumer and/or commercial law.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a reputable law firm and/or a dynamic corporate legal department, ideally in e-commerce, retail, or FMCG sectors. Proven track record in negotiating and finalizing contracts to support sales teams.
• Technical & Professional Skills: Strong grasp of business operations and associated risks; problem-solver balancing regulatory requirements with business objectives; exceptional drafting skills.
• Behavioral Skills: Autonomous, adaptable, proactive, results-driven, service-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills, flexibility in dynamic environments, and ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines with attention to detail. Excellent team worker and collaborative approach.
• Languages: Fluent in German and English.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS

• Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French.
